A CITY of Stirling truck carrying waste put aside for recycling has as an alternative ended up in landfill.
The truck, operated by waste contractor Suez, caught hearth whereas being pushed on Favell Approach in Balga on Friday afternoon.
Stirling waste and fleet supervisor Rick Bryant mentioned the possible reason for the hearth was non-conforming recyclables.
“The contents of the truck have been transported to a safe location to be assessed after which forwarded to landfill as a fireplace contaminated load,” he mentioned.
“This has not affected every other Metropolis of Stirling recycling and waste providers.”
The incident comes after it was revealed recycling collected from yellow-top bins by Cleanaway, which is the contractor for 20 Perth councils, was being dumped in landfill after contract negotiations stalled.
The Metropolis confirmed with Suez that family recycling is being recycled as regular at its Bibra Lake facility.
